Only drugstores and pharmacies with sufficient turnover received these unique, hand-painted Gapers from the Intec company of Veenendaal, Holland. These were therefore never sold on the open market and produced in a very small edition. The molds were destroyed in 1981 in the presence of guests and have not been made since. Height; approx. 20 cm Width; approx. 12.5 cm Depth; approx. 12.5 cm Weight; approx. 2.581 kg Material; natural stone Despite its age of 47 years, the sculpture is still in an incredibly pristine condition. A gaper served as the sign for pharmacists to attract customers, but also as a mark of quality for the shop. Initially this sign was hung from the canopy, but from the 17th century it was increasingly affixed to the facade; especially in Amsterdam this was very common. The mouth of the gaper is not open to gape, but to take a medicine. The grimace of many gapers is explained by the medicine tasting bad, or so the prevailing belief goes. We will ship this with very good packaging but cannot be held liable for damage during transport. We wish you good luck with bidding on this very rare item
