Attribution: Kurokawa Masayuki - Staff Cobra Desk Lamp Design Masayuki Kurokawa, born in 1937 in Nagoya, Japan, is an architect and product designer. Kurokawa is known as the Leonardo da Vinci of Tokyo. A figure who sparked a new era of architecture and industrial-mold design in Japan. He founded the Kurokawa Masayuki Architect Studio in 1967. The Butsugaku Research Institute in 1998 and Designtope Co. Ltd. in 2001. Designtope supports the creative activities of designers. He has been a visiting professor at several universities in Japan and China. Masayuki Kurokawa has been awarded multiple times for his projects. The Staff Cobra desk lamp received an iF Design Award in 1977. Note: This piece has been attributed on the basis of documents available online, such as period catalogs or other sources. Description Staff Cobra desk lamp Materials: flat black metal base. Flexible metal covered in rubber. Lampshade in painted aluminum. All parts are original. Production era 1970s. Conditions Good, perfectly functioning. This vintage/antique item has no obvious defects but may show slight signs of use and/or a patina due to age and use. *****Notice, read carefully***** The rubber covering the neck support has hardened with time. This does not affect aesthetics but reduces the elasticity and plasticity of the material, making it “risky” to modify the lamp neck shape. The operation, in fact, could cause small ruptures in the rubber of the ‘spirals’. In the photos highlighted: a small cut (we’re talking millimeters) and a crack in one spiral on the inner part of the neck, both practically invisible to the naked eye.
