An early Squier by Fender Stratocaster SE-100, built in China around 2004, finished in Torino Red. This concerns the European SE-100 version with 22 frets, rosewood fingerboard and a full-thickness Stratocaster body. The latter is an important difference compared to several thinner Squier entry models: this body has the classic Strat dimensions and makes the guitar particularly suitable as a modification platform, because standard Stratocaster parts are usually much easier to fit. The guitar has received two nice upgrades: the original pickguard has been replaced with a new original pickguard, and the original Squier bridge saddles have been replaced with Fender bridge saddles. Furthermore the guitar retains its classic Stratocaster configuration with three single-coil pickups, a 5-way pickup selector, one volume control, two tone controls, a 6-screw tremolo bridge, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, 22 frets and sealed tuners. In terms of tone, this SE-100 has a notably distinctive character. The three single-coils deliver a bright, direct Stratocaster tone with a light raw, somewhat vintage hue. Especially the middle positions have that typical open and sparkling character, while the bridge pickup sounds a bit crisper and more aggressive. It isn’t a clinically modern Strat sound, but rather a simple, characterful tone that suits indie, post-punk, blues, jazz and classic Strat work. This serial number belongs to the early Chinese CAE series and corresponds to a production around 2004. The guitar shows normal signs of use for its age, but still presents itself very nicely. Thanks to the combination of early SE specifications, full-size body and the upgrades already carried out, this is not only an attractive Stratocaster ready to play right away, but also an excellent base for further modifications to pickups, electronics, tremolo or hardware.
