Jewellery designs featuring two opposing gemstones were highly popular around 1900, as people delighted in the play of symbolism. This romantic style of jewellery remained fashionable in the following decades, as demonstrated by the present example from around 1925. Symbolically, the two precious stones on the ring’s head – a green emerald and a white old-cut diamond – face each other like two lovers. The two gemstones, the protagonists of the design, are clearly defined as individual elements, yet are firmly connected. Added to this is the symbolic power of the diamond as an emblem of immortality and the emerald as a symbol of everlasting hope. Should a happy relationship not look just like this? The ring, created in the dynamic 1920s, is crafted from solid platinum, and the ring’s head holds the two main stones as well as eight smaller diamonds, set with elegant curves in delicate prongs and a simple bezel. The large diamond weighs approximately 1.20 carats and is presented in an old cut. Equally remarkable is the emerald, cut in a step cut, originating from Colombia, which displays a stunningly intense green. It has been minimally oiled, which underscores its exceptional quality. Two independent certificates confirm the quality of the stones. The result is an attractive piece of jewellery, which, not least through the combination of high-quality materials and fine craftsmanship, represents a delightful treasure.
