Spectacular graptolite with extraordinary preservation!!!...

Spectacular specimens of the graptolite Araneograptus murrayi. Extremely rare to find specimens with this preservation. The fossil preparation was very laborious, preserving the finest details. The contrast between the fossil and the matrix is spectacular. The extraordinary preservation of the fossils allows observing in great detail the delicate structures of the graptolite colonies. A specimen worthy of a museum. Araneograptus measurements: 7.5 x 6 cm Plastic display stand included. Graptolites are an extinct class of the phylum Hemichordata. They are fossils of colonial animals that appeared at the end of the Cambrian and disappeared at the beginning of the Carboniferous. Graptolites were small animals that lived in groups or colonies. Some colonies formed branched shapes. The different types of graptolite colonies had branches with different shapes. They could be straight, curved, or even spiral-shaped. The Fezouata Formation fossil beds, near the Moroccan town of Zagora, are providing a rich and varied record of fossils with extraordinary preservation, with soft parts or soft-bodied animals being recorded quite frequently. This type of preservation is similar, though later in time, to that of the famous Burgess Shale (Canada). These are fossils dating between 480 and 472 million years ago. Back then Morocco was an ocean and located near the South Pole.
