Complete. NB: some of the photos are slightly yellowed due to twilight, in reality the paper is white! [EN] Equipped with 6 fold-out maps with large original margins and printed on thick paper: - World Map by Stoopendaal - The Famous Paradises - Forty-Year Journey of the Children of Israel - Jerusalem and its Temple - Promised Land of Canaan - Travels of Paul All maps are shown in the photos: see them for a good impression. Special: these editions of the World Map by Stoopendaal are very special. In the corners of the map, figures from Greek mythology are depicted. Because these were usually regarded as pagan, the four compass directions/continents with their inhabitants and animals were typically shown. This edition with these images is therefore very rarely encountered! In trade, only this particular world map alone typically fetches around 750-1500 euros! What makes the 'World Caert' special as well: around 1680, when it was issued, the entire world was not yet explored and known. Thus California is drawn as an island, Australia was still partly undiscovered and is labeled as 'New Holland'! The world map alone is immensely captivating! A very charming State Bible. With complete, authentic fittings. Very large and heavy Bible. Very neat maps, printed on thick paper. Equipped with all maps, beautiful initials and vignettes. Must-have for lovers of the States translation, rare editions of the State Bible and old maps Collectors-item! The States Bible (or Statenbijbel) is the first official translation of the Bible into Dutch, directly translated from the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. The commission for this translation was entrusted to the Synod of Dordrecht in 1618. The translation work took place in Leiden. The Statenbijbel was completed in 1635. In 1637 it was approved by the States. The Statenbijbel had an unsurpassed significance for the Netherlands, not only religiously, but also linguistically and politically. It forms the basis of Standard Dutch that developed in the 17th century and thus became an important instrument in the cultural unification of the Netherlands.
