SOUTHERN AFRICA 31st Dec 1938. the Imperial Airways Flying Boat 'Calypso' took off from St. Nazaire, France, bound for Southampton. The flight encountered bad weather and engine trouble. The pilot made a forced landing on the sea near the Island of Alderney and the plane had to be towed to Cherbourg, France. No special markings were applied because the mail was undamaged. This over from Cape Town (22 XII 38) to London was on that flight. Uncommon.
