Sonny Insinna - BALANCE #10

Balance #10 Sonny Insinna With Balance #10, Sonny Insinna continues his ongoing exploration devoted to the theme of balance, transforming the figure of the elephant into a powerful metaphor for the precarity of our time. The elephant, an animal symbolizing wisdom, memory and immense power, is depicted in a seemingly impossible condition: its massive weight is supported by a small sphere, which in turn is balanced on a base of burnt wood. The scene thus becomes a reflection on the fragility of equilibrium. Even what seems strong and majestic can find itself in a precarious position. The elephant, despite its grandeur, is forced to continually seek a point of stability. The sphere represents the world we inhabit: a fragile reality, marked by fractures and tensions. The gold leaf applications emphasize these fractures as if they were precious wounds: they do not hide fragility, but reveal it and, at the same time, affirm its value. The base of burnt wood introduces a further symbolic element. It is the earth transformed by human intervention, a material that bears on its surface the sign of destruction yet continues, despite everything, to sustain life. In Balance #10 the animal is not simply depicted: it becomes a message. As in Sonny Insinna’s pursuit, animals are often used as protagonists of a symbolic language through which the artist speaks about humanity, nature, and the increasingly fragile relationship between the two. The elephant thus appears to be in a suspended moment, between the possibility of falling and the possibility of regaining its balance. A metaphor of our condition: we are all balancing on something fragile, and the responsibility not to let it collapse belongs to all of us.
