Société Céramique Maastricht - Henri Breetvelt - Vase...

Monumental vase by Société Céramique Maastricht, circa 1900, decorated with a scene after the Dutch painter Otto Eerelman (1839–1926). An impressive large earthenware lidded vase from Société Céramique Maastricht, executed in warm brown and sepia-like tones. The front is decorated with a finely painted scene of a horse with a richly harnessed Friesian carriage and several people, after a work by the Dutch painter Otto Eerelman. Eerelman gained wide renown as a painter of horses, carriages, carriages and sleighs. Depictions of horses and carriages are among his most recognizable subjects. A well-known work by Eerelman is Ritje met de sjees, which likewise features a horse and carriage with people in traditional clothing. The scene on the vase is very gracefully translated into a monochrome brown palette. The painterly brushwork, the detailed tack of the horse and the clothing of the depicted figures give the whole piece a distinctly historicizing and typical Dutch appearance. The vase has a fine, monumental form with a large vaulted body and a characteristic bulb-shaped lid. With a height of about 78 cm, it is a particularly large and decorative object that, as a freestanding work of decorative arts, truly stands out. The underside bears the blue factory mark of Société Céramique Maastricht. The combination of the factory, the scene after Eerelman, and the dating around 1900 fits well within the known production of Maastricht ceramic ware from this period. Comparable Société Céramique objects with scenes after Eerelman have been documented. Dimensions: Height: ca. 78 cm Condition: Very good original condition. Only minimal signs of aging and a few light scratches appropriate to the age and usage. No chips, no cracks, and no restorations. Condition: very good.
