Antique Porcelain (earthenware) Salt Cellar in the Forte Series "June" - Società Ceramica Richard (Milan) - Umbertine Period (1873-1896) Splendid and rare collectible salt cellar in Forte earthenware, complete with lid and coordinated tray, produced by the historic Società Ceramica Richard at the Milan workshops (San Cristoforo) in the late decades of the 19th century. The piece bears on the base the prestigious impressed and printed mark "SOC.CER.RICHARD", topped by the name of the famous decorative series in italic script "June". This specific marking allows dating the object with absolute certainty to a time frame between 1873 and 1896, i.e., before the historical merger with Manifattura Ginori di Doccia that gave life to the giant "Richard-Ginori". Stylistic details and significance of the series: The object perfectly embodies the elegance of the Umbertine table. The form features a body with swollen ribbing of neo-rococo influence. The two side handles and the sumptuous lid knob in the through-porous form are modeled in plant-like shapes with elegant brush-stroked purple/violet highlights. The lid has the classic side notch to house the serving spoon. The decoration belongs to Richard’s renowned "Series of the Months". The variant "June" celebrates the spontaneous flora of early summer: the surface is adorned with a refined multicolored composition where realistic blue-violet cornflowers and field buds in yellow and green tones stand out. The asymmetric, fresh arrangement of the flowers gently foreshadows the naturalistic sensibility that would culminate in Italian Liberty (Art Nouveau). An exceptionally interesting piece for lovers of Italian artistic ceramics and for collectors of rare themed table services from the late 19th century. The glaze is glossy and the colors are vivid. Structurally, the object is in good overall condition; only a small internal defect is noted, not visible from the outside, which does not compromise the piece’s aesthetics or display.
