Slice & Complete- RARE METEORITE CR2 -Carbonaceous...

Magnificent complete piece and slice with size and quality for a good sample collection, of Carbonaceous Chondrite type CR2, found in Algeria in 2021. Thanks to the slice we can appreciate its interior of great beauty; in it you can see dozens of chondrules and metallic iron and nickel inclusions, some enveloping the chondrules, typical of this type of carbonaceous chondrites. It is paired with CR2 meteorites classified under the name Erg Chech 003, since the typology and the area where it was found are the same. The rare group of stony meteorites CR2 is represented by about 160 different examples, more than half of which were found in Antarctica and, therefore, are not available to collectors. CR2s are carbonaceous chondrites, and the "R" in this subgroup derives from the name of the historic fall of 1824 witnessed in Renazzo, Italy. The matrix of carbonaceous chondrites has been altered by the presence of water, described as "aqueous alteration" in scientific terms, and that alteration likely occurred in the main body (asteroid). CR2s show a particularly high incidence of hydrated matrices (up to 50% by volume). Some scientists believe that, by transporting water and other materials here, carbonaceous chondrites of this type may have played a role in the evolution of life on Earth. Carbonaceous chondrites are generally among the oldest materials in the solar system, over 4,700 million years old, i.e., the first materials that solidified in the solar nebula, and therefore some of the oldest materials ever described and found. An excellent opportunity to add this cosmic wonder to your collection.
