The Steinbach paper retains a strong presence, the blacks are intense and velvety, the line remains of remarkable vigor and precision. Transparent disclosure: a moisture stain on the left part, visible in the photographs, as well as a small pinhole at the bottom left. These flaws, localized and clearly identifiable, do not affect the overall reading or the strength of the composition. Natural patina of time, perfectly coherent with the age of the work. Description Magnificent and expansive charcoal drawing from 1953, created at a moment when Silvin Bronkart fully asserted his abstract language, four years after the founding of the Réalité group (a precursor to Réalité-Cobra) in Liège. The composition unfolds a masterful entanglement of biomorphic forms and architected volumes. A large central oval, traversed by vertical lines and arcs, organizes space like an organism in expansion. On the right, a more angular volume engages in dialogue with a shaded circular form — a true bright focal point — which draws the eye and gives the whole a nearly corporeal presence. To the left and at the bottom, triangular planes, grids and fragments of volumes interlace in a powerful rhythm, both constructive and organic. The charcoal is wielded with a virtuosity already accomplished: dense hatching, subtle gradations, nerve-like strokes and zones of spatial depth create a fascinating visual tension between construction and spontaneity. The velvety blacks contrast with the reserves of the Steinbach paper, which breathes and structures space. This drawing sits at a turning point: the energy still close to Cobra here refines into a more personal, lyrical and architected abstraction, already anticipating the later recherches of Informel art while retaining the graphic intensity typical of Liège. A rare piece by virtue of its ambitious format, its double signature on the recto, its workshop documentation on the verso, its presence in the catalog raisonné and its impeccable family provenance. Ideal for collectors of post-war Belgian abstraction, high-quality modern drawings, and Liégeois art of the 1950s. Biography of Silvin Bronkart Silvin Bronkart (full name Silvin, Joseph, Louis Bronkart), known as Silvin, was born June 14, 1915 in Liège. Trained at the Institut Saint-Luc in Liège (1930-1939), he won the Grand Prize at the end of studies. After the war, he became one of the central figures of the Liège avant-garde and co-founded in 1949 the group Réalité with Pol Bury, Georges Collignon and others. This group quickly affiliated with the international COBRA movement. An active member of APIAW, he participated in numerous exhibitions in Belgium and abroad. His works are in public collections (Musée d’Art Moderne de Liège, MuZEE Ostend, etc.) and in the hands of major Belgian collectors. He died in 1967 at the age of 52, leaving behind a coherent, demanding and poetic body of work.
