A premium automotive technical poster dedicated to the 1957 BMW Isetta 300 Export — one of the most recognizable microcars of the post-war era and an ingenious example of compact German automotive engineering. This artwork presents the BMW Isetta 300 in a clean factory technical-document style, combining precise front, side, rear and overhead views with dimensional references, mechanical specifications and a detailed representation of its compact rear-mounted powertrain. The BMW Isetta Originally based on the innovative Italian Isetta concept, BMW extensively redesigned the vehicle for its own production, creating a distinctive microcar ideally suited to the economic and urban conditions of 1950s Europe. Its unusual front-opening door, extremely compact body and economical single-cylinder engine made the Isetta unlike almost anything else on the road. The 1957 Isetta 300 Export The Isetta 300 represented an evolution of BMW’s earlier 250 model, using an enlarged engine while retaining the extraordinary packaging concept that defined the car. Despite measuring little more than two metres in length, the Isetta provided enclosed transportation for two occupants while maintaining exceptionally low running costs. 298 cc Single-Cylinder Engine The Isetta 300 is powered by a 298 cc naturally aspirated single-cylinder four-stroke engine. The air-cooled power unit is positioned at the rear and produces approximately 9.5 kW / 13 PS at around 5,200 rpm. Its simplicity, compact dimensions and low fuel requirements were perfectly suited to the lightweight microcar. Unique Rear-Wheel Layout One of the Isetta’s most distinctive engineering features is its unusual rear axle arrangement. The two rear wheels are positioned extremely close together, with a rear track of only approximately 520 mm. This narrow arrangement allowed BMW to avoid the complexity of a conventional differential. Power is delivered to the rear wheels, while the much wider front track provides stability and steering control. Four-Speed Manual Transmission The single-cylinder engine is paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. Combined with the car’s approximately 350 kg curb weight, the modest power output is sufficient for urban transportation while maintaining the mechanical simplicity central to the Isetta concept. Technical Dimensions Wheelbase: 1500 mm Front track: 1200 mm Rear track: 520 mm Overall length: 2285 mm Overall width: 1380 mm Overall height: 1340 mm These extraordinary dimensions demonstrate the Isetta’s unconventional proportions, particularly the dramatic difference between its front and rear track widths. Performance The 298 cc single-cylinder engine produces approximately 13 PS, with a top speed of around 85 km/h. Performance was never the primary objective. Instead, the Isetta focused on minimal weight, economical operation, compact dimensions and maximum packaging efficiency. Detailed Technical Composition The artwork includes true front and rear orthographic elevations, a large 90-degree side profile, an overhead technical view revealing the compact rear-mounted engine, dimensional measurements, engine specifications, transmission and weight information, performance data and a period-inspired BMW technical inspection stamp. The warm ivory background, restrained technical linework and structured typography recreate the appearance of an archival BMW engineering document while emphasizing the unmistakable proportions and mechanical layout of the Isetta. Its technical-document aesthetic is particularly suited to enthusiasts of BMW, historic microcars, unusual engineering and classic European automotive design. A technical celebration of one of BMW’s most unconventional vehicles — combining minimal dimensions, ingenious packaging and unmistakable 1950s character in an archival-inspired presentation. The poster will be carefully packed for shipping to ensure safe delivery.
