Shi ceremonial sword. Shi people, Democratic Republic of Congo, 19th–20th

Descriptio Metal and wood. Dimensions: 82 × 5 cm. A ceremonial weapon of great formal elegance, used in ritual contexts and to represent status within the Shi culture. The stylized, elongated metal blade is combined with a wooden handle that reinforces the symbolic character of the piece beyond its practical function. This type of sword was associated with chiefs, warriors, or specific ceremonies, acting as an emblem of authority, prestige, and power. The simplicity of the design and the patina of use attest to its authenticity and its relevance within the material tradition of Central Africa. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
