Shelley (Mary Wollstonecraft) Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus, half-title, light staining to fore-edge at foot, original half roan, spine chipped with loss to foot, some darkening to lower half, scuffing to corners, 8vo, Morning Herald Library, 1899. *** Rare. "Since the firm produced the newspaper The Morning Herald there is a possibility that Frankenstein was published in some issues. However, the short lifespan of this newspaper – it only existed between Apr 1899 through September 1900 – and the fact that there are twelve known reprint novels issued by this firm suggest that Frankenstein was not printed in the paper, but only in a single volume book format. Like all the other titles, this edition of Frankenstein is rare. The newspaper itself is also rare, with only one set known – at the British Library... At least one other title printed by this firm has been observed in an identical binding, which suggests that the publisher offered copies in this standard form." - Tornquist, Tracing Frankenstein.
