A0000006372 Article: BLACK SHEAFFER'S LIFETIME FLAT-TOP FOUNTAIN PEN with humped clip and gold cap ring, lever filler Reference / Edition: Lifetime — barrel imprint "W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO., FORT MADISON, IA. U.S.A." with patent dates (Aug.25.08 / Dec.10.12 / Jan.27 / Oct.20 / Nov.22) Length: 13.3 cm Diameter: 1.3 cm Nib: EF (extrafine), 14k gold nib "Sheaffer's Lifetime Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. Made in USA" Period: 1920s (approx. 1924-1929; the imprint with patent dates places the piece before 1927) Materials: Body and cap in high-gloss black Radite (celluloid), clip "humped" with ball end and gold-plated cap ring, 14k gold nib, metal lever filler Condition: Very good condition for its age. The celluloid shine is very vivid, with no cracks or visible deformations; the imprint on the barrel is clear and legible, indicating little wear. Micro-scratches and very light signs of use on the cap and barrel are noticeable, slight loss of finish on the clip and on the gold ring, and old ink/oxidation residues in the nib slit area and breather hole. The nib tips look aligned and the lever mechanism retains its travel; being an antique piece, the inner rubber sac may need replacement before continued use Accessories: Only the loose piece; no box or papers visible in the photos
