Sfeervol beschilderd bedsteebankje – vogels en bloemen in...

Atmospherically painted bedside bench – birds and flowers in Hindeloeper style – probably circa 1880–1920 A cheerful eye-catcher with the charm of traditional folk art. This wooden bedside bench combines a deep green base with a warm red surround and a lively decoration of flowers, graceful vines and two striking bird motifs. The birds form the ends of the beautifully shaped front. Their curved necks, yellow-green beaks and contrasting outlining give the bench a quirky character. Between them bloom blue, yellow and red flowers, connected by fine white and red brushstrokes. The machined legs are also decorative, with red heart-shaped motifs. The rectangular top keeps the composition calm and lets the colorful front stand out even more. A functional piece with a decorative story Bedside benches traditionally stood before the raised sleeping place and helped with getting in and out. Simple pieces of furniture gained a distinctive personal and regional look through painting. The decoration of this exemplar aligns with the Hindelooper painting tradition, known for its flowers, birds, scrolls and bold colors. The bench is likely dated to the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. The maker and the age of the existing painting have not been established. Today it is a particularly decorative accent for a hall, bedroom or country interior, for example with a few books or a nice collectible on it.
