senza firma - Cacciatore e carrozza.Pulcinella

Fascinating and rare oil painting on panel (or canvas applied to panel) of popular folk and Naïve style, dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century. The work unfolds in a strongly horizontal (panoramic) format, typical of decorative elements over doors or commemorative panels of rural craft. The scene, rich in dynamism and with an exquisitely theatrical flavor, depicts a chase or satire in a rural landscape. In the center stands the unmistakable figure of Pulcinella, iconic mask of Commmedia dell'Arte, portrayed with the classic white smock and the evident sugar-loaf hat as he runs with open arms. On his left, a hunter in period clothing (short red trousers and hat) points a gun at him. On the right, the scene is completed by a pedestrian on a light two-wheeled cart (a light horse-drawn chaise) pulled by a running black horse, and a dog or wild animal fleeing toward the edge of the composition. The background presents a suggestive profile of blue mountains under a cloudy sky streaked with birds in flight. The work is distinguished by its typical two-dimensionality and the expressive spontaneity of folk art/ex-voto, preserving its original patina intact. The painting is framed by a robust contemporary light solid wood frame.
