SEINE-ET-MARNE. DOUBS. Relics of SAINTE FARE from FAREMOUTIERS Abbey. Abbey of Notre-Dame de CHAAGE in MEAUX. Autograph letter signed "B. PRUNEAU " Honorary Canon, Director of the Seminary of Notre-Dame de CHAAGE, from the Seminary of MEAUX on September 9, 1827, addressed to the Secretary of the Archbishopric of BESANÇON (Doubs), postage prepaid. 3 pages large in-8° : " Monsieur l'Abbé, le 10 Mai 1777, Madame de DURFORT Abbesse de FAREMOUTIERS, du consentement de toute la Communauté, a fait présent à Mgr l'Archevêque de BESANÇON, son frère, d'une partie d'ossement du bras gauche de SAINTE FARE Patronne et fondatrice du Couvent. The other part of the same bone remained in the parish church, as we can judge from the description given in a copy of the minutes of the said donation, recorded in a collection of interesting anecdotes concerning the Abbey. To be on the safe side, we would need to know if you still have the part of the bone that was donated. You must have the upper part of the ulna bone of the forearm. It must be three inches long. It is all the more interesting for us to have certain information on this point, as the bone in question is one of two, which served for a dazzling Miracle performed on a religious of the convent in 1622 and authentically recognized by Mgr de VIEUXPONT Bishop of MEAUX among a great number of others by which it pleased God to manifest at that time the glory of his servant. And this bone is the only authentic one still presented as having belonged to the Abbey of FAREMOUTIERS, because the Chasses having been broken in the cemetery and the relics having been hidden in the ground, it is not constant enough that there are no foreign bones mixed in... The Feast of SAINTE FARE takes place on December 7th. There is a well-attended pilgrimage; it would be urgent for everything to be in order at that time...".
