The American was best known for his athletic dunks, rebounds, and energetic play. His most successful years were with the Seattle SuperSonics, for whom he played from 1989 to 1997. Together with Gary Payton, he led the team to the NBA Finals in 1996, where the Sonics fell to the Chicago Bulls led by Michael Jordan. Kemp was selected to the NBA All-Star game six times in a row and was among the league’s most popular players in the 1990s.
