Scuola italiana (XIX), Seguace di Carlo Magini - Natura morta con spaghetti

Large and ancient oil painting "Still Life with Spaghetti" - End of the 19th Century / Style - Attributed to Magini I’m putting this beautiful and large oil-on-canvas painting up for auction, depicting a richly laid table in old-fashioned style. It’s a truly striking and very scenographic work, perfect for a living room or dining room. The scene is full of details: in the center there is a large plate or tureen full of spaghetti with sauce (really well done, they look real!), beside it a pile of white dishes, a piece of cheese, some bread, and a dark bottle in the background. The thing I like most is in the foreground: a bottle inside a wooden barrel or tub with water, which used to keep wine or oil cool. The reflections on the glass and on the water are beautiful. The painting is unsigned (or at least I haven’t found signatures on the front or the back). It comes from a private collection, where it hung for many years. I’m not an art expert or a connoisseur, but looking at the frame from behind, I think the painting is from the late 1800s or early 1900s. While doing a bit of online and book research to understand what I had in my hands, I discovered that this type of composition, with pasta dishes and humble kitchen objects, is virtually identical to the style of a very famous 18th-century painter named Carlo Magini. I’m selling it as a beautiful late-19th-century painting in that style, but I’ve always had a big doubt: given the incredible quality of the shadows, of the pasta, and of how the wood is painted, I wonder if it’s merely an homage to Magini or if there’s a more important story behind it that I can’t uncover. I’m happy to leave it to more experienced collectors or to scholars to examine it in person and discover its true history. For me it’s a fascinating piece and a lovely enigma to keep at home. The canvas measures about 60 x 80 cm (quite large), with a frame of 95 x 75 x 6 cm. Along with the painting I’m including its splendid antique gold wooden frame, worked with nice geometric reliefs. It goes perfectly with the painting and enhances it a lot. I consider the frame a gift; I’m leaving it as is, so it has no commercial value for the purchase. The painting is in good overall condition, considering it’s over a century old. The canvas is well stretched on its original wooden frame. The colors are solid and stable; there are only the normal light signs of aging which, in my view, make it even more fascinating and attest to its age. For complete accuracy, I vaguely recall that some time ago it was “re-shot” or adjusted, but I honestly don’t know the exact reason—perhaps to refresh the colors or to protect it from time or other factors, since it was cherished at home. The work still presents as solid and ready to hang as it is. I care a lot that the painting arrives safe and sound, so I will personally ensure protective, expert packing: I will wrap the painting in layers of bubble wrap and cardboard on the front and back. It will all be placed inside a sturdy cardboard box. I ship only with an international express courier (like UPS or DHL) so you can track the journey with a tracking number. Insurance against damage or loss is fully included in the shipping price, so everyone can be calm. Happy bidding to all!
