Winged putto in white marble – 18th century – sculptural fragment with swiveling museum-style support Fascinating winged putto carved in white marble, attributable to the 18th century, characterized by a refined execution and a pleasant expressiveness of baroque taste. The youthful angelic face is modeled with particular softness: full cheeks, slightly parted lips, gaze directed upward, and hair worked into locks. On the sides develop the large wings, carved with an articulated rendering of the feathers that gives movement and depth to the whole. This is most likely a sculptural element originally belonging to a larger architectural or decorative composition, presumably intended for a religious, devotional context or for an important 18th-century decorative apparatus. Particularly interesting is the original iron pivot on the back, a testimony to the antique fixing system of the work. For its current display, an elegant wooden and metal support has been specially made, designed to preserve this historical element in full without modifying or removing it. The support is also swiveling and adjustable, allowing the putto to be oriented at the desired angle and to be appreciated at its best the plasticity. The contrast between the antique marble and the contemporary black structure gives the piece a museum-like appearance, making it especially dramatic even in a modern or minimalist setting. The marble shows natural patina and signs of time consistent with the object's antiquity. An ancient restoration intervention is present, clearly documented in the photographs. Overall the piece preserves notable charm, with a living, authentic surface that underlines its historical character.
