Sane Wadu (1954) - "Husband and Wives Dancing"

A beautifully original expressionist acrylic painting on paper by Sane Wadu (1954), 1984. Sane Wadu, born as Walter Njugana Mbugua in 1954 in Kenya, is an important artist within modern East African art. He began painting professionally in the 1980s, became known for his expressive depictions of people and animals, and was co-founder of the Ngecha Artists’ Association. His work has been exhibited internationally. On the label there is a reference to the Gallery of Contemporary East African Art, which from the mid-1980s was active in collaboration with the Kenya Museum Society and the National Museums of Kenya. This gallery organized exhibitions and also had a shop where artworks were sold. The work is signed on the front lower right with "Sane Wadu". The dimensions including the frame are approximately 50 x 40 cm, the artwork itself is approximately 24 x 24 cm (visible 23 x 23 cm). The reverse side lists the title, the artist, and a reference to the art world in Kenya.
