S.A. Email Koekelberg

This beautiful enamel sign is a piece of advertising history for the French/Belgian mattress brand Epeda and, thanks to the tax stamp at the bottom, dates precisely from 1952. The sign is rendered in a striking cobalt blue with a thin white border, and immediately catches the eye with the cheerful, very ’50s illustration: on the right, a man in a striped pyjama stretches out in bed, yawning with arms wide, while a red duvet slip drapes like a scarf over the brand name. On the left sits the catchy slogan "SUR UN EPEDA BIEN TU DORMIRAS" (on an Epeda you sleep well) in bold yellow block letters with a black drop shadow, giving the sign a true vintage advertising effect. At the bottom the enamel manufacturer is listed, "S.A. Email Koekelberg, Brux.", together with the tax stamp "Taxe Pay. Brux. 372-112-1952", from which the sign can be securely dated to 1952. The sign is equipped with metal mounting brackets on the top and attachment holes along the bottom edge, indicating that it was once hung in a shop or sales point. In addition to this blue version there was also a white version of this Epeda sign; the blue variant is considerably rarer and is thus the scarcer of the two color schemes. The sign measures 78 x 58 cm.
