Autograph letter signed by President Rutherford B. Hayes, dated January 12, 1889, on personal stationery from Fremont, Ohio, accompanied by the original addressed mailing envelope. The letter is addressed to William Osborn Stoddard, one of Abraham Lincoln's private White House secretaries and the author of a contemporary biography of Hayes.
