Romy van Rijckevorsel - Girl with pearls

Romy van Rijckevorsel (Drunen, 1967) is a Dutch artist, living and working in Vlijmen since 2002. After a long period as a portrait painter, she graduated in 2017 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Arendonk with a degree in Painting. Since then, she has been working as an independent, self-employed artist. Her work is part of collections both in the Netherlands and abroad. Van Rijckevorsel's body of work is steeped in narrative: family history, memory, and tradition are recurring themes, inspired by the oral storytelling tradition within her family. While her work was initially predominantly figurative, in recent years there has been a steady shift towards a more abstract visual language. A characteristic of her working method is the absence of a predetermined concept: each work arises intuitively, without a set final image. This open approach results in a visual language that is spontaneous, layered, and sometimes deliberately untamed is — a deliberate choice that benefits the directness and impact of the work. Ready to hang: no, the painting will be rolled and needs to be stretched again by your local framer. Shipping extra-large formats rolled is safer and more environmentally friendly than shipping finished works.
