Robert Herrick No gemstone has been so often associated with passionate love in history and the arts as the ruby. It was its colour alone that prompted Robert Herrick to compare it with the rosy mouth of his beloved Juliet. Oscar Wilde also compared the red of the ruby in his fairy tale "The Nightingale and the Rose" with the colour of the heart itself, and William Blake spoke of the "rubies and pearls" of the loving gaze. This ring presents three of these rose-red gemstones in one of the most popular designs of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A gold band ring with three or five gemstones and diamonds across the finger was part of every fashion-conscious lady's jewellery box at the time. This type of ring was particularly widespread in Great Britain: Several rings were often worn side by side, with each ring having its own sentimental meaning. The ring is still suitable today as a romantic gift or engagement ring. It came to us from Stuttgart and is supplied with a detailed appraisal from the German Gemstone Appraisal Society.
