Ca. AD 1 - 300. A dark glass intaglio engraved with a fish-tailed marine creature facing right, with a bifid tail curling behind and a crested head raised above the body. The gem is set in a possibly later gold ring within a plain oval collet, above a broad flat-section hoop. Size: D:18.34mm / US: 8 1/4 / UK: Q; Weight: 5.5g Provenance: Private London collection; previously acquired from a Belgian collection (1980s-1990s).
