Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 16523 “Zenith” Two-Tone – White Tritium Dial The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is one of the most significant generations of the iconic Daytona collection. Produced from the late 1980s through the 1990s, this two-tone model is known among collectors as the “Zenith Daytona”, referring to the Zenith-based chronograph movement extensively modified by Rolex. Specifications Brand: Rolex Collection: Cosmograph Daytona Model: Cosmograph Daytona “Zenith” Case diameter: 40 mm Case material: Stainless steel and 18-carat yellow gold Rolesor Bezel: Fixed 18-carat yellow gold tachymetric bezel Bezel scale: Graduated to 400 units per hour Dial: White lacquered finish Hour markers: Applied 18-carat yellow gold markers Luminous material: Tritium Dial signature: “T SWISS MADE T” Chronograph counters: Small seconds at 9 o’clock, 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock Crystal: Scratch-resistant sapphire crystal Movement: Rolex Calibre 4030, self-winding mechanical chronograph movement Movement base: Zenith El Primero Frequency: 28,800 vibrations per hour Power reserve: Approximately 54 hours Functions: Hours, minutes, small seconds and chronograph Water resistance: 100 metres / 10 bar / 330 ft Crown: Screw-down winding crown Pushers: Screw-down chronograph pushers Bracelet: Rolex Oyster bracelet in stainless steel and 18-carat yellow gold Caseback: Solid stainless steel The reference 16523 represents an important chapter in the history of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona. Its “Zenith” nickname comes from the use of the Zenith El Primero as the base for the Rolex Calibre 4030. Rolex extensively modified the original Zenith movement, reducing its frequency from 36,000 to 28,800 vibrations per hour and adapting the movement to Rolex's technical standards. This generation therefore occupies a particularly interesting position between the manually wound Daytona models of the previous era and the later generation equipped with Rolex's fully in-house automatic chronograph movement.
