LOT OF 7 EUROPEAN TUREENS WITH LIDS – GINORI, RICHARD GINORI, MOULIN DES LOUPS, SELTMANN, WINTERLING AND LUBIANA Description Interesting lot consisting of seven tureens with lids, made by various European manufactories and belonging to different periods of the 20th century and, in the principal Ginori piece, to a historic production. The lot brings together pieces from Italian, French, German and Polish manufactories, characterized by different shapes, decorations and techniques. The piece of greatest interest in the lot is the large Ginori tureen in white porcelain with a pomegranate handle, accompanied by six other tureens from different manufactories. 1. GINORI – TUREEN WITH POMEGRANATE HANDLE Large white porcelain tureen with lid, two elaborate side handles and a distinctive upper handle modeled in the shape of a pomegranate. This typology is documented for historic Ginori production: on the antiquarian market there are white porcelain pieces with two curly handles and pomegranate handles attributed to the 19th century. The piece features particularly rich modeling and a slightly irregular circumference. The irregular profile is clearly perceptible when viewing the piece from above and constitutes a very distinctive characteristic of the work. The base bears the GINORI mark in green. The exact dating of the exemplar is not stated with certainty; the form, the mark and the construction features suggest historic production, approximately from the late 19th century to the first decades of the 20th century, to be regarded as a chronological attribution rather than an absolute date. Condition: the lid has two chips, clearly visible in the photographs, in addition to normal signs of age and use. 2. RICHARD GINORI – ITALY Round tureen in white porcelain, with lid, two side handles and decoration with gilded borders. The base bears the Richard Ginori – Italy mark. The form and the mark are compatible with production in the second half of the 20th century, without attributing a more precise date in the absence of further identifying codes. The gilding shows normal signs of wear and aging. 3. MOULIN DES LOUPS / HAMAGE – FRANCE Important white ceramic/faience tureen, characterized by rich plastic modeling, with elaborate side handles, raised body and strongly modeled lid. On the base the mark is present: MOULIN DES LOUPS HAMAGE NORD FRANCE The designation Moulin des Loups-Hamage is associated with Wandignies-Hamage production from 1928; the Wandignies-Hamage factory ceased production in 1952. The chronological placement of the piece is therefore compatible with the first half of the 20th century, roughly 1928–1952. The piece retains a strong decorative and plastic character. Condition: has several chips and material losses; the lid has been re-glued/repaired. Also present are marks and traces compatible with age and use. All defects are visible in the photographs. 4. JOHANN SELTMANN – VOHENSTRAUSS – BAVARIA Round white porcelain tureen, with lid, two side handles and a gilded top handle. The body and lid are decorated with an ornamental band in brown and gold tones. The base bears the mark: BAVARIA VOHENSTRAUSS JOHANN SELTMANN with additional numbering. The Seltmann Vohenstrauß manufactory was founded in 1901 and production in Vohenstrauß ended in 1996. The mark on this piece is compatible with postwar production and the second half of the 20th century; the number "49" on the base is not interpreted as a production year. Condition: normal signs of age and use, with wear especially in the gilded parts. 5. HEINRICH WINTERLING – MARKTLEUTHEN – BAVARIA White porcelain tureen with lid, two side handles and a slightly wavy profile. Decoration features a floral motif in pink/peach and green-gray tones, distributed on the body and lid. The base bears the mark: WINTERLING MARKTLEUTHEN BAVARIA The Heinrich Winterling manufactory of Marktleuthen was active from 1903 to 2009; the mark "Winterling Marktleuthen Bavaria" is documented for production after 1950. The piece is thus approximately placed in the second half of the 20th century. Condition: good for age, with normal signs of use and aging. 6. LUBIANA – MADE IN POLAND Round white porcelain tureen, with lid, two large side handles and a body with soft, rounded forms. On the base is the mark: LUBIANA MADE IN POLAND The mark is compatible with Lubiana production from around 1969–1992. The tureen features a simple, elegant form, without painted decorations, valued solely by the modeling of the body and handles. Condition: normal signs of aging and use. 7. OVAL TUREEN – MANUFACTURE NOT IDENTIFIED Large oval tureen in white ceramic/porcelain, with lid and two side handles of geometric shape. The base bears a circular mark that is very faded and not legible enough to allow a definite attribution of the manufactory. For accuracy, the piece is therefore offered as an unidentified manufacture, without speculative attributions. Condition: normal signs of age and use. GENERAL CONDITIONS The lot shows varying conditions, consistent with the different eras and origins of the pieces. Normal signs of age, use, small imperfections and wear on surfaces and decorations are present. The main defects to note are: - Ginori Pomegranate: two chips on the edge of the lid; - Moulin des Loups / Hamage: several chips/material losses and lid re-glued/repaired; - Richard Ginori and Johann Seltmann: gilding wear; - on the other pieces, normal signs compatible with age and use. The photographs show the pieces in detail with their marks and defects and must be considered an integral part of the description. The lot is sold in the condition documented by the photographs.
