Hinges of the slipcase split, spine partly detached. Very good overall condition with a very fresh interior First edition. Limited edition of 114 numbered copies on Japon with an additional suite in sanguine, this being No. 26. It comprises nearly all the letters addressed by Remy de Gourmont to Natalie Barney from 1910 onward. Natalie Barney, who had forced the door of the recluse on rue des Saints-Pères, fascinated Gourmont, who immortalized her under the nickname the Amazon. He sent her, through Mercure de France in between, letters on various topics of literature or philosophy (later gathered in a volume under the title Lettres à l’Amazone). This volume, magnificently illustrated by André Rouveyre, contains the friendly, even amorous letters he wrote to the young American until his death. Fine copy.
