Remo Squillantini (Stia, 1920 – Florence, 1996), original work depicting a concert scene with two musicians intent on playing string instruments. The composition is characterized by the artist's typical figurative language, with strongly simplified figures and an intense palette dominated by warm tones, ranging from red, orange, ochre and brown, contrasted by darker areas. The work bears a signature at the bottom. On the back there is an old commercial label of “Surprise Arte,” based in Nocera Inferiore (SA), together with some handwritten annotations relating to the work. The painting is original and is offered as a work by Remo Squillantini. No further documentation, certificate of authenticity, or archival documentation relating to the work is available due to loss; therefore the attribution is presented on the basis of the work, the signature, and the elements present on the back. The work is accompanied by a fine wooden decorative frame, with a silvered and gilt finish and carved ornamental motifs at the corners. The frame shows several signs of age, abrasions, and small losses of the finish, visible in the photographs. The work presents in overall good condition, with normal signs of aging. Prospective bidders are advised to carefully examine all photographs for a full assessment of the condition of the work and the frame.
