Reliquary - Wax - 1950-1960 - Pope Pius XII

Rare Agnus Dei in yellow wax – Pope Pius XII (1939-1958) – Pontifical portrait – Sacred art of the 20th century Rare Catholic devotional medal of the Agnus Dei type, in yellow wax, oval in shape, bearing on one of its faces the embossed portrait of Pope Pius XII (Eugenio Pacelli, papacy from 1939 to 1958). The sovereign pontiff is depicted in profile, facing to the right, robed in his pontifical vestments. His effigy is accompanied by Latin inscriptions, partially toned down by wax wear. The traditional inscription “ECCE AGNUS DEI QUI TOLLIT PECCATA MUNDI” (Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world) is associated with this object, whose other face features a religious relief design, today difficult to read. The Agnus Dei constitute a particularly ancient tradition within the Catholic Church. These wax medallions, traditionally made from blessed wax, were distributed to the faithful as objects of devotion and spiritual protection. The manufacture and blessing of these papal objects gradually disappeared during the 20th century, which gives them today a particular historical and religious interest. Condition: antique state, showing general wear of the reliefs, rubbing and superficial marks, characteristic of the fragility of this material. Pontifical portrait still clearly identifiable. Indicated provenance: clergy of Beaumont, according to an ancient handwritten annotation accompanying the object. The photos are an integral part of the description of the objects and complete its presentation. They allow you to assess its condition and features. Please examine them carefully before any bidding The item will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number, to ensure fast and secure delivery. Happy bidding
