RARE BLACK MELANITE

From our selection of collectible minerals we propose a rare group of Melanite crystals originating from Mount Somma, Vesuvius, Campania. Moreover, it is characterized by well-developed, dark shiny crystals on a volcanic matrix, with small contrasting light crystals that enhance its brilliance, features that increase its aesthetic value and mineralogical importance. The specimen stands out for the quality of crystallization and for the overall aesthetic balance, with characteristics that emphasize its natural structure and visual impact. Melanite is a black, titanium-rich variety of the garnet Andradite: the dark color is due precisely to the substitution of iron with titanium in the crystal structure. The Somma–Vesuvius complex is one of the historical and classic localities for this mineral, known since the nineteenth century thanks to ejecta blocks from volcanic activity and described in numerous texts of systematic mineralogy. This is an ideal specimen for mineral collections, display, and for those who appreciate the natural beauty of minerals, even within crystal therapy and lithotherapy, according to the properties traditionally associated with the mineral species. All minerals are 100% natural and untreated, save for rare exceptions always noted in the description. Photographs are taken with professional lighting to best highlight colors and details; however, slight tonal variations may occur depending on the device or ambient light.
