Rare Antique Chinese Silk and Metallic-Thread Rug - 9 ft x 6 ft (2.74

Curated collection of antique, vintage and modern rugs Rare Antique Chinese Silk and Metallic-Thread Rug Size: 9 ft x 6 ft (2.74 m x 1.82 m) Provenance: Property of a New York proffessor Date: Circa 1900 An elegant and unusual antique Chinese carpet woven with lustrous silk and enriched with metallic threads, giving its surface a luminous, jewel-like personality. As the viewing angle and surrounding light change, the silk produces subtle shifts in tone, while the metallic details gently shimmer, adding depth and distinction to the design. Chinese silk carpets were made in far smaller numbers than wool examples, and those incorporating metallic thread are rarer still. The combination of precious materials, delicate drawing, refined artistry, and generous 9-by-6-foot size gives this piece particular decorative and collecting importance. Both luxurious and quietly sophisticated, it reflects the refined textile traditions of late Qing-dynasty China and would be equally compelling displayed on a wall or placed in a carefully considered interior.
