Todas las subastas / Arte, Pintura & obra gráfica / Ralph Prins - 'God' door het RO-Theater Rotterdam - 1990s

Original theater/advertising poster from 1994 for the production 'God' by the famous American director Woody Allen, produced by RO-theater in Rotterdam. Graphic designer Ralph Prins depicts Woody Allen himself in a nurse's uniform circa 1900, while he holds a reduced version of the same poster in his hands in a so-called 'infinite repetition', also known as the 'Droste effect'. Prins drew inspiration from the images of the iconic nurse on the cans and boxes of Droste cocoa powder, who carries a serving tray with a steaming cup of hot chocolate and a box bearing the same image. At the top in the white margin to the right of the poster, Ralph Prins also prints: 'With thanks to the Droste nurse'. Condition: B+: normal roll and crease marks. Image and text intact. Fresh colors. Shipping: rolled in a sturdy tube with track & trace. Ralph Prins (Amsterdam, 3 May 1926 – The Hague, 23 January 2015) was a Dutch visual artist. He designed brand marks, posters and book covers, and was a photographer, painter and drawer. “God” is a humorous play by the well-known film actor and director Woody Allen. A piece where fantasy and reality intertwine. A Greek tragedy in Woody Allen’s style. Hilarious scenes succession in tempo. Everything blends together. Present and past, sense and nonsense, belief and disbelief, classical drama and light entertainment. Several actors turn out to be entangled in different stories. “None of us is really real,” confirms someone’s anxious suspicions. And is the woman from the audience truly a virgin or is she merely pretending?"
