Like hardly any other piece of jewellery, the pearl necklace made of fine saltwater cultured pearls can claim the status of a classic. However, this was only made possible by Kokichi Mikimoto, who at the beginning of the 20th century in Japan was the first person to succeed in breeding and marketing full-round saltwater pearls. This invention was so remarkable that another great inventor congratulated it: Thomas Edison, to whom we owe the light bulb. "It is one of the wonders of the world that you were able to culture pearls," Edison wrote in a letter to Mikimoto in 1927. Previously, ladies had often had to spend years collecting individual natural pearls until they had an entire necklace - unimaginable today. This is how the pearl necklace came to adorn every well-stocked jewellery box a few decades later. It is hard to imagine the necks of Hollywood actresses of all years without it. For almost every budget, jewellers put together pearl necklaces, but the number and quality of the pearls, as well as the preciousness of the clasp. A particularly splendid pearl necklace of those years is presented here. In three rows and in graduated sorting, the pearls lie in princess length around the neck. They are of fine quality throughout and have a warm, creamy luster. At the neck, the necklace is held by an ornamental clasp, at the center of which shines a cherry-red natural ruby. Over half a carat of diamonds sparkle on milgrain-embellished swags. We have had an external certificate done on the necklace, which attests to the quality of the materials. A beautiful piece of jewellery that will never go out of style.
