Large-format commemorative coin issued to celebrate the 4th Centenary of the discovery of the sea route to India by Vasco da Gama. The obverse features the superposed busts of Carlos I and Queen Amelia, finely engraved and of notable artistic quality, with excellent definition in the facial features, decorations, and ceremonial attire. The reverse is dominated by the Cross of the Order of Christ, the central symbol of Portuguese maritime expansion, accompanied by a rich historical legend and commemorative dates. The piece retains full details typical of a non-circulating coin, consistent with an MS64 grade.
