French monumental navette coupe – cut crystal – lozenge-shaped foot – ca. 1920–1940 Description Impressive and exceptionally heavily crafted French centre de table / compotier in clear-cut crystal, dating from circa 1920–1940. The coupe has the elegant classic navette or boat shape and rests on a characteristic lozenge-shaped foot (lozenge foot). With a length of 32 cm and a weight of no less than 2.8 kg, this is a monumental and highly decorative piece of crystal work. The crystal is richly and deeply cut over almost the entire surface. Around the coupe runs a broad, dazzling frieze of pointes de diamant, combined with large polished lancet- and leaf-shaped cuts. These, in incident light, create an exceptionally strong sparkle and give the heavy crystal an elegant appearance at the same time. The underside is also beautifully finished. The short, powerfully faceted stem flows into a pronounced lozenge-shaped foot, equipped with a large radial star-cut. Even the outer edge of the foot is carefully faceted. The combination of the navette form, the rich pointes de diamant decoration, the polished cuts and the star-cut lozenge foot aligns with the high-quality French crystal tradition, in which such classical centre-de-table forms were executed by the major crystal works. The piece is unsigned. For this reason, no specific crystal maker such as Baccarat or Saint-Louis is identified as the manufacturer.
