Pine Tree in the Heath - Gary Westall

Pine Tree in the Heath by Gary Westall Painting 9.5 x 11.8 :: I also painted this picture during the plein air event in the Kirchdorfer Heide. The striking pine tree in the foreground immediately caught my attention. Its irregular shape and sprawling branches form a stark contrast to the open violet-colored heathland. My goal was not only to depict the pine tree as accurately as possible but above all to capture its character and how it fits into the landscape. I was particularly interested in the interplay between the purple heath and the various shades of green and blue in the trees and the sky. The direct visible brushstrokes preserve the spontaneous character of plein air painting. Signed lower left.
