Piet Worm - Drukkerij Verweij Mijdrecht - De lezende...

Piet Worm (name variant: Petrus Johannes Fransiscus Maria Worm; signed as Piet Worm) was born on September 17, 1909 in Alkmaar and died on May 7, 1996, also in Alkmaar. He was married to Tia Wiegman. Piet pursued artistic studies at the School for Decorative Arts in Haarlem, the Royal School for Art, Technology and Craft in ’s-Hertogenbosch, and the Academy for Visual Forming in Amsterdam. He was, among other things, a student of André J. Verhorst (temporary collaborator of Le Corbusier). He was a broadly oriented artist (ranging from architect to author and bookbinder, illustrator, children’s book author, editor, (wall)painter, comic artist, typographer and publisher. From him are known both stage designs and ex libris, stained glass, (children’s book) illustrations, calendars, book, cover and binding designs, and little toys.) In the early days, the Kinderboekenweek gifts did not yet appear as books but as posters, cutout/building sheets, or otherwise to look at or to tinker with. Poster 1 The Reading Clown — Piet Worm — 1955 — Kinderboekenweek poster In 1955 the first Kinderboekenweek was held. On the occasion, a wall mural was issued: ‘The Reading Clown’ by writer/illustrator Piet Worm. Unused poster, as good as new. About 41 x 56 cm. This is the original poster from 1955, not the 1994 one, which was a reprint of the wall mural from 1955. Issued by the Propaganda Committee for the Dutch Book on the occasion of the 40th Kinderboekenweek. THIS IS THE RARE FIRST EDITION FROM 1955! Poster 2 Long live Father Gnome by Piet Worm ca. 1950-1960 Unknown work by this famous writer/illustrator Piet Worm. – Deep hidden among the tall trees, under a dense canopy of green, turquoise and pink leaves, lies an enchanted forest where gnomes and animals live in harmony. The winding tree trunks, graceful branches and colorful flowers form a fairy-tale world in which behind every bush and on every branch something special can be discovered. High in the sky shines a cheerful sun with a smile on her face. She looks down on the lively forest, where birds sing merrily, squirrels play among the branches and little birds care for their young in warm nests. In the distance stands a colorful carousel, where the gnomes have fun together. Their red caps stand out cheerfully against the green landscape and their activity brings the forest to life. Behind a wooden gate with the sign ‘No Entry’ paths meander between the trees. They lead past gnome houses, hidden corners, and a large tree that even contains a home built inside. In the trunk there are windows and doors, as if the tree itself has become a house. Through the open windows, the gnomes look outside curiously, while others work on the yard. Further on lies an orchard full of ripe, yellow-red apples. The gnomes pick the fruit, fill their baskets and bring the harvest home. Some work with a rake or hoe in the garden, others ride a wheelbarrow along the paths. Everywhere there is activity, but no one seems in a hurry. Everyone contributes in their own way to life in the forest. The animals also belong to this community. Deer graze among the trees, pigs root around curiously, cows stand quietly in their fenced pasture and horses pull carts with hay. At the water, ducks and geese float, while birds watch from the branches. In the trees there are nest boxes, bird nests and small hiding places. Even the smallest animals seem to have their own little spot here. As the day progresses, life goes on as usual. By the great tree-house there is a long table with red chairs ready for a communal meal. The gnomes prepare the food, set the tableware and make sure everything is in its place. Afterward, the dishes are washed and the animals help in their own, sometimes mischievous way. Meanwhile, laundry hangs between the trees to dry and the chickens roam under the table. Daily life is depicted in a simple, cozy, humorous way. Small decorations are everywhere: colorful garlands, paper fans, pennants and images hanging among the branches. They give the forest a festive look, as if there is always something to celebrate. The warm colors, fine black lines, and the countless details make the whole a lively picture-book world where nature, fantasy and homeliness come together. If you look closely, you keep discovering something new: a bird feeding its chicks, a squirrel sitting on a branch, a gnome hard at work, or an animal curiously appearing among the flowers. No corner of the forest is merely filled; everywhere a small scene unfolds inviting you to pause. Thus this special picture tells the story of a world in which living together, caring for each other, working and enjoying go hand in hand. A world in which nature is not only the setting but a living part of daily existence. The gnomes and animals share their environment, help each other and find pleasure in the small things. It is a world where time seems to stand still for a moment, where behind every tree a new adventure awaits, and where the beauty lies precisely in the many small details. A cheerful, colorful and imaginative forest life in which everything is connected and where, every time you look again, you discover something new. – Unknown in which combination this was offered, or under which promotion. Kinderboekenweek? Folded in good condition, perhaps a single old stain – dimensions about 21 x 137 cm The accompanying photos are an integral part of the lot description. Carefully packed in a sturdy cardboard tube and shipped with track and trace as parcel post.
