PICASSO (Pablo). — The Erotic Picasso. Paris, Réunion des musées nationaux, 2001. Large quarto, paperback (approx. 27 × 22 cm), red illustrated cover with cut-out window, 365–[3] pp., extensive black-and-white and color illustrations. An important catalog of the exhibition “Erotic Picasso,” organized by the Réunion des musées nationaux and the Musée national Picasso, presented at the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume in Paris (February 19–May 20, 2001), then at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the Museu Picasso in Barcelona. Essays include contributions by Jean Clair, Annie Le Brun, Pascal Quignard, as well as numerous scholars specializing in Picasso’s work. The BnF lists the book under ISBN 2-7118-4090-5. A very comprehensive catalog exploring the central role of eroticism in Picasso’s work, from his early drawings and scenes of brothels from 1899–1901 to his mature works. Numerous reproductions of drawings, sketchbooks, paintings, engravings, and documents, several of which are full-page. Condition: very good copy. Clean cover with only very slight signs of wear; interior is in very fresh condition and the binding is sturdy. The small window on the cover, which is sometimes vulnerable on this edition, appears to be well preserved here.
