PHILIPPINES. Mindanao. Adherence Award Silver Medal, ND (ca. 1890).

PHILIPPINES. Mindanao. Adherence Award Silver Medal, ND (ca. 1890). Alfonso XIII. EXTREMELY FINE. Honeycutt-31-2. Weight: 13.62 gms.; Diameter: 79 mm. Obverse: Multi-rayed star, crowned arms of Spain within wreath, legend around "*GOBIERNO GENERAL DE FILIPINAS* PREMIO A LA ADHESION", laying lion left banner with "ESPANA" below above, crescent banner with "MINDANAO" below; Reverse: Incuse impressions of obverse with tunic pins. This seldom seen issue displays light attractive tone with richer gray patina in the protected areas complemented by a slight iridescent sheen. The designs are fully rendered on this thin award with modest wear primarily contained to the exposed areas. An interesting piece that is seen infrequently and should be considered VERY RARE and highly desirable. Closely related to the Jolo campaign, the Mindanao Moros were never fully subdued by the Spanish. Issued by the local government in Manila, these were awarded to individuals in recognition of their loyalty or adherence to Spanish sovereignty in the region. In late 2025 an example of similar quality sold for an astounding $6,020. Estimate: $2,000 - $3,000. Provenance: From the Dr. Earl Honeycutt Collection.
