Todas las subastas / Lámparas / Peterson - Meerschuim Model 307 - Pipe - Meerschaum Sterling Silver 1972
Late 70s Peterson's meerschaum pipe with a sterling silver band. The silver band bears the stamp "Peterson’s" (top) "Dublin", followed by "Sterling" (top) "Silver". On the underside there are three hallmarks: 1. The seated Hibernia (Ireland), 2. The harp (symbol for the silver content) and 3. The small letter "e" (which indicates the year of the pipe) 1972. I suspect the pipe was made on the Isle of Man by Laxey Pipe Ltd. from African meerschaum. It was made for export, commissioned by Peterson’s of Dublin. From the hallmarks on the silver I can see that the pipe (or at least the silver) is from 1972. the Laxey Pipe Ltd. on the Isle of Man for Peterson’s in Ireland Laxey Pipe Ltd. was located in a historic four-story stone building on The Quay in Old Laxey (on the Isle of Man); this building has fortunately been preserved. The company specialized in the production of meerschaum pipes, using meerschaum mined by the Tanganyika Meerschaum Corporation in the Amboseli Basin in Tanganyika (since 1964 part of the United Republic of Tanzania). Note: although one often encounters names like "Manx Pipes Ltd.", "Man Pipe Co." and similar, there is no indication that any other pipe manufacturer on the Isle of Man has ever been active besides Laxey Pipe Ltd. Dimensions (approx.): 16 cm long, 5 cm high, 2.1 cm bowl width, 4.3 cm bowl depth Condition: Good. Weight: (approx.) 54 g See photos; they are an important part of the description.
