A0000005769 VINTAGE MONTBLANC WRITING SET 225 (GERMANY, 1970s): We present at auction a superb Montblanc writing set that perfectly encapsulates German industrial design from the 1970s. Departing from the classic polished resins and gold of the Meisterstück line, the 225 series embraced Bauhaus-influenced minimalism, creating work instruments that are sturdy, sober, and of impeccable technical quality. The set consists of a fountain pen and its matching ballpoint pen. Both instruments feature bodies made from a special black resin with longitudinal brushing (Makrolon style), offering a warm, matte texture that is highly resistant to scratches. The caps are made of brushed stainless steel, topped with Montblanc’s iconic white star. Individual characteristics: Fountain pen (225): Equipped with an integrated piston filling system. It carries a fabulous semi-hooded nib in solid white gold 14 karat (585 stamped), designed to provide smooth writing and protect ink from evaporation. Ballpoint pen (285/225): Incorporates Montblanc’s ingenious and characteristic 70s mechanism: the tip is actuated by pressing the clip itself downward (lever-clip mechanism). Condition (Expert Appraisal) Prospective bidders are asked to closely examine the photographic gallery. The set is in an honest and very good vintage condition: Bodies and caps: The brushed steel is in very good condition. The textured black resin shows light abrasions and areas where the brushing has softened from historical use (creating subtle sheen from natural wear of this material), but there are no cracks or breaks. Nib: The 14K white gold nib is pristine and the tines are properly aligned. Mechanics: The pen’s piston turns and the ballpoint’s clip mechanism works perfectly. (Appraisal note: It is sold as-is, without original case. The ballpoint may require a fresh ink refill. For the fountain pen, given its old piston system, a preliminary rinse with water is recommended).
