Pair of Japanese baluster vases - 20th century

Pair of Japanese cloisonné enamel vases – Phoenix, peonies and scrolls – Early 20th century Beautiful pair of baluster-shaped Japanese enamel cloisonné vases, polychrome, richly decorated with medallions featuring phoenixes, surrounded by peonies, flowers, foliage and scrollwork on a very worked copper-brown background. The two vases feature a perfectly matched decoration, with wide turquoise and cream reserves highlighting the mythological birds with wings spread. The necks are also adorned with flowers and polychrome geometric motifs. The overall execution is particularly decorative, with a dense network of metal cloisons and a wide variety of colors. The decoration continues across all surfaces, including the necks and bases. Pair in very good overall condition, with good preservation of enamels and decoration. Some minor age-related traces, but no major visible damage. These vases are characteristic of the Japanese cloisonné production from the late 19th / early 20th century.
