Todas las subastas / Arte Antiguo / Ottoman art - Brass plaque chased in repoussé - King on horseback - 19th c
Carved brass repoussé plateau Antique Kadjar/Qajar brass plateau, relief-embossed with repoussé, from the 19th century, with scrolled edges Rare early collectible model from the early 19th century, possessing a superb patina. Islamic plates often have a story to tell us—the reigns, legends, the Quran—leaving their mark in the engraving of these pieces of popular art metalwork. This model tells the story of a king and his symbols of protection. At the center of the plate, a king riding a harnessed horse, going on a hunt or to paradise (presence of the peacock). Behind him, a crouching woman. Note the surrounding peacocks around the horse and this king, symbolizing immortality and renewal, in a vegetal and floral setting. Under the horse, two hounds, one with a human head. A frieze of foliage closes the scene, leading to the rolled and scrolled edge. Dimensions: Diameter 37.4 cm - Height 2.16 cm - excellent condition - Beautiful patina. Provenance: Luxembourg, Galerie G.F.D. Previously: Luxembourg collection of Ottoman art The seller can prove that the lot was legally obtained, provenance declaration seen by Catawiki.
