Othon Coubine (1883-1969) Young nude woman seated Ink drawing signed at the bottom right Framed Dimensions (frame): 44.5 x 34.5 cm Dimensions (sight): 28 x 21 cm ————— Othon Coubine, whose real name was Otakar Kubín, was a Czech-French painter and sculptor, born in 1883 in Boskovice, Moravia, and died in 1969 in Marseille. Settled in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century, he frequented the artistic avant-gardes and drew notably toward Cubism. He exhibited with the artists of the School of Paris, alongside painters such as Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and Fernand Léger. From 1912, he settled in the Vaucluse, in Simiane-la-Rotonde. His Provence landscapes, still lifes and portraits gradually became more luminous and pared-down. Thus his work evolved from Cubism toward a more classical painting, marked by light and the Provençal landscapes.
