Osamu Tezuka - Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom) - Original...

Original Japanese promotional poster for Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom / 鉄腕アトム), created to promote the Japanese DVD release of the 2003 animated television series based on the legendary manga by Osamu Tezuka. The poster features a large and highly recognizable full-body image of Astro Boy against a pale blue circuit-board background. On the right are the first three Japanese DVD releases, announced for 3 October, 7 November and 5 December 2003. The lower credits include Tezuka Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan. A particularly attractive piece of Japanese animation memorabilia, combining one of Japan’s most historically important manga characters with a distinctly early-2000s graphic design. The poster is offered in its present condition and has not been linen-backed. Collector interest Astro Boy is one of the defining characters of Japanese manga and animation, created by Osamu Tezuka. Original Japanese promotional material featuring a large, classic representation of Astro Boy has strong decorative appeal and is increasingly collected beyond the traditional movie-poster market. This example is especially appealing because Astro dominates the composition while the original DVD-release information clearly documents its 2003 Japanese promotional context.
