Todas las subastas / Arte, Pintura & obra gráfica / Ontario Fraktur "Girl with Bird" — Joseph Bauman
Canadian. A charming and rare fraktur of a young woman holding a bird up to her face, illustrated in "Ontario Fraktur - A Pennsylvania- German Folk Tradition in Early Canada" by Michael Bird, pg 135, pl. 231, and attributed to Joseph D. Bauman (1819-1899). Joseph Bauman lived near St. Jacobs and was one of the last practising fraktur artists in Waterloo County, producing a diverse range of works, including watercolours such as this, as well as birth and baptismal records for family and friends. In strong colours, the girl is in an orange and yellow dress, framed within a multi-colour sawtooth border. Note the small bare feet. Ontario. C. 1883. Featured in "Ontario Fraktur - A Pennsylvania- German Folk Tradition in Early Canada," Michael S. Bird, pg. 135, pl. 231.
